New, Fully-Illustrated Pregen Document

A little while back I released the pre-generated characters for Illmire. A gentleman that goes by the name DC Stow took it upon himself to illustrate the characters and put them out there for folks to use.

I was so impressed not only by his initiative (he rolled a 20 in my eyes), but I adored his lovely artwork! So much that I reached out to him and said "Hey. This is awesome. Let me pay you."

But a gentleman he was, and refused payment, for he was just happy to create something awesome and help support fans of The Evils of Illmire.

You can understand how this may have impressed me even more.

So, naturally, I had to hire him, and requested he do a second set of PC illustrations, so that there are two different "looks" to choose from for each one.

They came out amazing! Hopefully you find them of good use and love them as much as I do!

But wait! What lies ahead?

Illmire is just the beginning...

This year, Spellsword is launching two Kickstarters, back to back, during the month of February.

Remember that DC Stow guy I was just talking about? Well, turns out we get along great make a great team!

We have teamed up for ZineQuest 2021 - DC Stow will be doing all of the illustrations for both projects!

Realms of Peril

REALMS OF PERIL is a classic fantasy role-playing game presented as TWO jam-packed zines lavishly illustrated by the amazing DC Stow.

☠️ Mechanics are designed to compliment West Marches style campaigns. Focuses on exploration of a sandbox-style hexcrawl map, an "open table" (no set cast of characters or static group of players) and a shared, persistent gameworld (the actions of one set of adventurers leave their mark for future adventurers to see). Feaures "flattened math" so fledglings and veterans can adventure together. Also provided are advice and tools for the GM to host their own open-persistent campaigns.

☠️ Designed with OSR principles in mind, as prescribed by old-school luminaries such as Matt Finch, Ben Milton, Steven Lumpkin, David Perry, Patrick Stuart, Scrap Princess, and Chris McDowall.

☠️ Simple but powerful d20-based core mechanic that encourage fiction-focused gameplay. Based on World of Dungeons by John Harper (creator of Blades in the Dark). Dice rolls determine not just success and failure, but whether you encounter cost, trouble, or mishap in your actions. The GM can use the core mechanic to resolve any roll, or they can fall back on a useful list of "methods" (PbtA-style moves) that help resolve specific types of actions when needed.

The Dragonwilds

THE DRAGONWILDS is a classic fantasy hexcrawl campaign setting designed for OSR systems and Spellsword's Realms of Peril game. Also presented as TWO jam-packed zines completely illustrated by the awesome DC Stow.

🐉 Nearly 250 hexes with something interesting to find in each and every one. Encounters with wayward knights looking to joust? Yep. Sea caves infested with giant crabs? Check. Hidden elf enclave guarded by intoxicating illusions? It's there. Dragon mounds? Of course! Ominous mountain entrance to underworld dungeon labyrinth? Come and see, if you dare!

🐉 More than 12 dungeons, ranging in size from small to huge, for adventurers to plunder and die in. Dungeons are designed to be easy to use at the table, putting the important "need to know" facts right up front, followed by the less obvious details that require some examination or interaction to uncover.
